Prelim Photography Task

Our theme for this Preliminary photography task was positive vs negative, and while we had the freedom of taking what ever photos we liked we were still restricted on what what we could actually photograph, we decided we wanted to go for a nature theme.

This image was taken with the ISO on 800.
This image was just taken normally on the Manual setting.
This image was taken with the exposure level indicator turned up to 3.

As you can see these three pictures are very different. The first picture take in ISO 800 setting is brighter and a vibrant than the second picture that was taken on a normal setting. While the third picture is almost washed our as the highlights of the picture have been brought out intensely and made the tree much lighter. This Series of photographs was for the positive side of our task, as the trees around us are extremely important.

This image was taken on the manual setting with ISO on 400.

This image was taken on the landscape setting.

This image was taken in the portrait setting.

These images are not as obviously different as the last set, but these focus on the negative side of nature, the death of all living things. The first image is a food example of negative space, it has a focused view on the leaf but the grass is slightly blured out. On the image with the landscape setting, the whole image is in focus without a single focus point, which causes the leaf to not be in such high definiton as it is focusing on everything. The last image can also be used as an example of negative space but its not as good at showing it compared to the first image.

This image was taken in manual setting with the ISO at 400.

This image has the exposure level indicator up to 3.

This Image was taken with the portrait setting.

These images are for the positive side of our theme, we picked flowers as they are a often seen as positve, as people love to give flowers to people. The first image has the ISO turned up alot to 400, this has caused the image appear brighter when compared to the last image taken on the portrait setting. The second Image has been taken with over exposure this has made everything much brighter and has caused the flowers to hardly even be seen as they have turned almost white.

This set of images shows two extremes, overexposure and underexposure. The first image shows a image that is too bright, you can hardly see the rubbish in the picture. The second image is just the normal photo taken on the manual setting. The third photo is darked by a lack of exposure, this creates a nice effect like it could be nighttime but the focus of the image, the rubish, is still very visable. This set of photos was for the negative side of out theme as it explores the human impact on nature, litter.

This task has allowed me to learn about different settings on the camera, ones that will definetly come in handy when I'm taking photos for my ancillary texts. It has helped me in how to take artistic shots, and will definitely allow me to explore my options when it comes to photographing.
