Analysis of Magazine Ad - Rihanna, Rated R

The 'R' in the upper right corner is Rihanna's symbol she uses on a few of her album covers, the 'R' is very sharp and appears very edgy, playing on Rihanna's image. The image is a close up of her face, it is the focus of the poster, which shows that she is the most important aspect of the album. She is wearing a lot of jewellery in this poster, all of which I very plain and in some cases sharp looking, this makes her appear dangerous but also showcases her wealth. The font she has used is sans-serif, and the reverse block writing stands out a lot, though the album title is not that bold, showing it’s not as important as her but important enough to make it to the cover. Rhianna's poster includes information in the bottom right corner about her website and record label, allowing people to get extra information on Rihanna and her new album if they want to. In this image, Rihanna is wearing black leather, this continues to add to the edgy image she has created for herself. She also has bold eye makeup on, it is quite dark and in parts pointy, this could connote danger. Her lipstick is also very dark further emphasises the danger surrounding this image. In this image, Rihanna is using direct address to get a deeper connection with the audience. Her expression is quite threatening, almost suggesting she is daring people to buy her album.
